HERE WITH YOU: AWAKE AND DREAMING Will Open At The Frist Art Museum
Installation by Dylan Camp to debut as part of Art in the Elevator program.
The Frist Art Museum will present Here with You: Awake and Dreaming, an installation by Nashville-based artist Dylan Camp, opening May 7, 2026 as part of its Art in the Elevator program.
The installation represents the fourth iteration of the initiative, which provides students and recent graduates opportunities to curate and design exhibitions. The project was developed under the direction of student curator Sydney Nelson of Fisk University and design intern Autumn Cruse, a graduate of Tennessee State University.
Installed in the museum’s Grand Lobby Elevator, the exhibition transforms a commonly used public space into an immersive environment. The installation features vinyl reproductions of eight acrylic paintings by Camp, whose work draws on themes of family, individuality, fashion, and dreams, influenced by her experiences living in the South and her personal heritage.
The visual layout incorporates a large-scale reproduction of Camp’s Here With You as a guide into the elevator, while figures from Water To Wine In Front Of My Homegirl appear on the elevator doors. The presentation emphasizes a sense of shared identity and imagination, with figures depicted in colorful clothing and situated in a space between waking and dreaming.
The Art in the Elevator program condenses the exhibition development process into a three-month period, offering participants hands-on experience in curation, design, and programming.
