10-year-old Lucy Turner Stars as Rhoda in STC's BAD SEED

By:

Little Rhoda Penmark, sweet, charming and full of old-fashion grace, and she may have the "prettiest mother," and be loved by her devoted parents and admired by all her elders. However, if you delve deeper into Rhoda's psyche, you might find something darker and far more sinister. And when one of Rhoda's schoolmates is mysteriously drowned at a picnic, her mother Christine Penmark (played by Lisa Marie Wright) is alarmed. For the boy who was drowned won the penmanship medal that Rhoda (played by Lucy Turner) felt she deserved.

Bringing Rhonda Penmark and all the people affected by her actions, Nashville's Street Theatre Company will present its revival of The Bad Seed for a June 10-26 run at its venue, 1933 Elm Hill Pike.

"Street Theatre Company's production of Bad Seed is going to be very exciting and innovative," explains Artistic Director, Cathy Street.

"First off, the themes in the show are so interesting in and of themselves. It explores the age-old question of nature versus nurture and whether or not can evil be inherited. Additionally, this production will feature original live underscoring by composer Rollie Mains. The idea is to explore how music enhances, consciously or subconsciously, an audience member's experience, especially in a psychological thriller like this. We hope to create a really unique experience for the theatergoer."

The run features special events including a charity night, where one dollar of each ticket sold will go to a local non-profit, a student night where tickets are only $10, a Starving Artist night that is pay-what-you-can-afford, and a "talk-back" night, where the audience is invited to stay after the show and talk with the cast and crew. For dates of the special events, visitwww.streettheatrecompany.org.

Performers include area favorites Lisa Marie Wright, Linda Speir, Rodney Pickel, Jeremy Maxwell, and stars 10-year-old Lucy Turner as Rhoda Penmark. Performances are June 10-26, with performances Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m. Tickets are $16 and $14 and are available online at www.streettheatrecompany.org. Performances are at Street Theatre, 1933 Elm Hill Pike, just off the Briley Parkway. For more information, call 615-554-7414.
