Catch Step is a trio of artists Anais Chloé Gilles/RISE, Delande Dorsaint/Djüngle, and Victoria Mackenzie/VicVersa formed in 2022. They are a group that represents multiple interests and practices within the street dance scene including dance, music, teaching, event organization, and community development. Catch Step was invited by Forward Movements in 2022 to perform and compete for the first time at the Montreal Hip Hop Games. Following their win at the Montreal Hip Hop Games, then their performance of Never Not Moving by FRGMNT, and their participation at the International Hip Hop Games in Lille, France, Catch Step is now arriving at presenting their first full-length show at LaChapelle Scenes Contemporaines. Remix-ing is our current interest. We have collectively cycled and continue to cycle through processes where ideas and material are transformed but never lost. As we step into our current work, we source material from previous processes to inspire and provide a start point for our current collaborators. This continuous remixing allows us to honor our past efforts as well as offering a pocket of base material for each new project to begin with. Catch Step HYA remix feat Lunice (with EENO T & Magnanimous) is a show of the choose-your-own-adventure style that welcomes a roster of new collaborators. Catch Step has invited Handy Yacinthe/HYA as our guest choreographer/remixer to form our physical universe using Catch Step's earliest material as loose inspiration. For HYA's remix we are diving deep into time signatures, set manipulation, duet form, and complex physicality. Also joining our process are 3 musicians whose collective skillset is shaping the multi-sensory playground that will be presented at La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines. Lunice, composer, and also performer, has created a beat universe whose delivery will shift each night within the semi-improvisational structure the team has created for the show. Also joining our musical team on stage are EENO T and Magnanimous.
