Cote Saint-Luc Dramatic Society to Stage LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

The Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society is thrilled to present Little Shop of Horrors from June 8 to 25 at the Harold Greenspon Auditorium.

Little Shop of Horrors, which boasts music by Alan Menken and lyrics and book by Howard Ashman, is a horror comedy rock-musical like the city of Côte Saint-Luc has never seen before. Little Shop of Horrors is the Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society's first full musical back in Côte Saint-Luc, following their META-winning collaboration with the Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre, The Producers, which was presented at the Segal Centre last summer. Other recent musicals include Fiddler on the Roof, Catch Me If You Can and the META-winning Hairspray the Musical. The Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society celebrates its 6th season this year.

Meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after lovely Audrey, his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it BLOOD. Over time, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination! Seymour must decide what he's willing to do for fame, fortune, and love. The musical was famously adapted into a 1986 film directed by Frank Oz.

"Directing Little Shop of Horrors has been a dream of mine since I was 9 years old! I have been besotted by its catchy tunes, hilarious script and iconic characters for 30 years now. I'm not alone. It's one of the most produced musicals of all time," said Director Anisa Cameron, who is also the Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society's Artistic Director. "Our award-winning team is reunited to tackle the creative opportunities of this cult favourite! David Terriault (Music), Alexia Gourd (Choreography), Elyse Malo (Costumes), Linda Babins (Lights), as well as new comer to CSLDS, award winning set and puppet designer, Sabrina Miller - not to mention the incredible cast. I can't wait to share our outrageous show with our audience!"

The cast of Little Shop of Horrors is made up of 23 amateur and professional performers from across Montreal. Ben Warner returns to the CSLDS to play Seymour, after starring as George in the recent production of Our Town, and Danny Zuko in Grease (2012). As Audrey, Seymour's colleague and longtime crush, Sarah Kulaga-Yoskovitz makes her CSLDS debut, along with Franco Decrescentis in the role of Orin, the sadistic dentist. Kenny Stein, who appeared in The Producers last summer and Fiddler on the Roof (2013), can be heard as the voice of the plant, while the plant itself appears as a larger-than-life puppet onstage. Côte Saint-Luc mayor and CSLDS founder Mitchell Brownstein plays shop-owner Mr. Mushnik. Other CSLDS veterans, as well as many newcomers, make up the show's ensemble.

"We are thrilled to be presenting a popular musical with island-wide appeal, fulfilling our mandate to provide theatre for actors and audiences of all ages to enjoy," said Mayor Mitchell Brownstein, the show's producer and CSLDS founder. "Bringing happiness to the community is an important mission of our City Council. Little Shop is sure to have people laughing and leaving the theatre dancing and singing for days!"

Tickets are available online at CSLDramaticSociety.com, or in person at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library (5851 Cavendish Blvd) or the Aquatic and Community Centre (5794 Parkhaven Ave). General admission is $32, and students, seniors and QDF members pay $28. Tickets are $28 for the preview performances on June 8 and 9 at 8:00 PM, and June 10 at 2:00 PM.

The Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society is a community theatre initiative that began in the summer of 2011 in partnership with the City of Côte Saint-Luc. The goal is to bring together actors, writers, musicians and other artistically minded community members to produce theatrical works in an inclusive environment where emphasis is placed on team work and camaraderie, not celebrity.
