At its annual meeting today, the Guthrie Theater (Joseph Haj, Artistic Director) reflected on the organization's 2020–2021 fiscal year, which began September 1, 2020, and ended August 31, 2021. While onstage performances were shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Guthrie reached audiences through virtual programming and events, connecting communities during a time when healing and inspiration were greatly needed.
MN Black Theatre Circle, in partnership with the Guthrie Theater, will present Blackness Is…, a theater-inspired arts festival to be streamed May 21–22 at 7:30 p.m. and May 23 at 7 p.m. CDT. Over the course of three days, the festival will offer a dynamic and diverse showcase of theater, music, dance, poetry and spoken word.
MN Black Theatre Circle, in partnership with the Guthrie Theater, today announced it is accepting artist applications for Blackness Is…, a theater-inspired arts festival that will celebrate Black voices and empower Black liberation in locations throughout the Twin Cities May 21‒23, 2021.
Despite a tumultuous fiscal year that ended on August 31, 2020, Board Chair James L. Chosy, Artistic Director Joseph Haj and Managing Director James Haskins reported that the theater remains financially stable, engaged in critical work and hopeful for the future.
