Named "best new chamber ensemble 2009" by the Star Tribune, Accordo returns for a second season in the Southern's intimate space. The ensemble features principal players from the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and Minnesota Orchestra, including Steven Copes, Ruggero Allifranchini, Maiya Papach, Ron Thomas and Tony Ross.
"We're thrilled to continue our relationship with the Southern and excited to kick off the season with two cello quintets," said Copes. "One is a rarely heard gem by Sergei Taneyev, the Russian intellectual and close friend of Tchiakovsky (he gave the premiere of his piano concertos...), followed by what is arguably the greatest piece of chamber music ever written, the Schubert C Major Quintet, written only two months before his untimely death at the age of 31."

Taneyev: Cello Quintet #1 in G Major, Op. 14
Schubert: Cello Quintet in C Major, D. 956
