National Theatre & Education Conference Coming To Minneapolis This August

The American Alliance for Theatre & Education's 31st annual National Conference: Rise Up! will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 1-5, 2018, exploring what it means to use art and activism to make positive change in our communities.

The five day conference will celebrate the work and the future possibilities of the AATE community with two reflective pre-conference opportunities, two dynamic keynote speakers, five master class opportunities facilitated by artists and change-makers from across the field, six excursions including tours and performances at the Guthrie Theater, as well as 100 sessions by presenters from across the country suited for a variety of arts educators, including PreK-8, High School, College/University/Research, Advocacy, Applied Theatre, Playwriting, Professional Theatre, and Youth Theatre.

AATE attracts three distinct audiences - artists, scholars, and educators - sparking dialogue across specializations. This allows for the exchange of ideas, sharing, and networking across the theatre community. AATE's largest networking opportunity is its annual national conference, where theatre-specific artists and educators exchange expertise in an atmosphere of fun, warmth, and professionalism.

From its nationally recognized theatres to its small independent venues, Minneapolis ranks as the fifth most "creatively vital" city in the country. Minneapolis is home to more than 45 presenting theatres, 150 professional theatre companies, and a multitude of college/university theatre programs, making it an ideal city for theatre educators to congregate.
