IN THE HEIGHTS Debuts In Minnesota At The Orpheum Theatre 12/1-6
In the Heights, winner of four 2008 Tony Awards and the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, debuts in Minnesota at Hennepin Theatre Trust's Orpheum Theatre, Dec. 1-6, 2009. In the Heights is about the importance of home, family and finding where you belong. It tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood-a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. In the Heights is presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust as part of its 2009/10 Broadway Across America-Minneapolis Season.
In the Heights is about a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions to take with you, and which ones you leave behind. The show opened on Broadway to broad critical acclaim March 9, 2008. The Washington Post said In the Heights is "Pure Broadway. An evening of old-style, innocent pleasure." Ben Brantley of The New York Times enthused, In the Heights is "an exuberant, animated shrine to the importance of family ties and being faithful to where you come from." In the Heights continues to play on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
In addition to winning the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show's creator, won the Tony Award for Best Music and Lyrics, Andy Blankenbuehler won for Best Choreography and Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman won for Best Orchestrations. The original cast recording won the 2008 Grammy Award for
Best Musical Show Album and Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to produce a feature film based on the smash hit musical.

In the Heights runs Tuesday, Dec. 1 to Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 at the Orpheum Theatre, 910 Hennepin Avenue, Mpls., 55403. Show times are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m.
