HERSHEL AND THE HANUKKAH GOBLINS Comes To Hillcrest Center Theater

Hershel and the 2009 IVEY Award - winning puppets are back this holiday season. The story follows Hershel of Ostropol who has been walking long and hard with growing anticipation for the Hanukkah holiday. Tired and hungry, he imagines the smell of latkes and the bright lights of the menorah, but when Hershel arrives in Helmsbergville, the village is silent. Goblins have been preventing Hanukkah in Helmsbergville for years. Can this visitor help bring Hanukkah back? Enlisted by the townspeople, Hershel agrees to spend eight nights in the old synagogue to try to defeat the goblins in this enchanting, timeless work.
Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins is a new production under the direction of Scott Rubsam. Mr. Rubsam has directed Off Broadway (The Wedding of the Siamese Twins, Black Market) as well as at numerous other theaters in New York. He has also written and directed three scripts: Flashbacks, A Christmas Past - Christmas Present, and Americana, for the Guthrie Theater. Other local directing credits include Illusion Theatre, Playwright's Center, Park Square Theatre, and Theatre in the Round. Mr. Rubsam is currently on the faculty of Metropolitan State University. Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins will feature Kirby Bennett (Women's Minyan, Chaim's Love Song, The Triangle Factory Fire Project, The Magic Dreidels, Hanukkah Lights in the Big Sky), Wendy Freshman (Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins, 2009, The Magic Dreidels, The 75th, The God of Isaac), Joshua Larson (Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins, 2008 and 2009), Julie Ann Nevill (Women's Minyan, Lovers & Traitors: The Killing of the Rosenbergs), and newcomer to MJTC's stage Stephen Pearce.Videos
