David Sedaris Returning to State Theatre in October; Tickets on Sale Tomorrow

By:

Internationally acclaimed New York Times bestselling author and National Public Radio humorist DAVID SEDARIS returns by popular demand for his annual visit to the State Theatre on Friday, Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. The great skill with which Sedaris slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that he is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. With more than ten million copies of his books in print, Sedaris is one of America's pre-eminent humor writers.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27 at the State Theatre Box Office, charge-by-phone at (800) 982-2787 and online at HennepinTheatreTrust.org.

Sedaris is the author of many best selling titles, including "Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls" and other collections of essays such as "Me Talk Pretty One Day, Barrel Fever" and "Holidays On Ice." Sedaris's pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in "The Best American Essays." A collection of fables entitled "Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary," with illustrations by Ian Falconer, was published in September 2010 and immediately hit the New York Times bestseller fiction list. There are a total of ten million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages. Sedaris' next book will be a collection of his diaries, entitled "Theft By Finding" coming next summer.

He has collaborated with his sister, Amy Sedaris, under the name "The Talent Family" writing six plays, which have been produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center and The Drama Department in New York City. These plays include Stump the Host, Stitches, the Obie Award winning One Woman Shoe, Incident at Cobbler's Knob and The Book of Liz, which was published in book form by Dramatists Play Service.

Sedaris has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, two for Best Spoken Word Albums, "Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim," and another for Best Comedy Album, "David Sedaris: Live at Carnegie Hall." Since 2011, he can be heard annually on a series of live recordings on BBC Radio 4 entitled "Meet David Sedaris." A feature film adaptation of his story "C.O.G." premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013. And his original radio pieces are often heard on "This American Life" on Minnesota Public Radio.
