Williamston Theatre to Hold Teen Workshops, Beg. 6/18

By:

The Williamston Theatre will be offering 4 workshops this summer for teens (12-18 years old) starting June 18. The classes will be taught by Dana Brazil, a professional actress who has been seen onstage at Williamston Theatre, BoarsHead Theatre and Purple Rose Theatre Company.

Each workshop covers a specific skill. They are designed as individual workshops, not continuing from week to week. Students are encouraged to sign up for as many workshops as they like. Students who have attended classes at the Williamston Theatre covering these areas are encouraged to return, as new skills will be explored commensurate with each student's skill level.

Theatre Games/Improvisation (June 18) – Basis acting skills and techniques taught through theatre game playing. Get your theatre juices flowing with this fun workshop.

Scene Study/Monologues (June 25) – Students will break down, analyze and perform small scenes in terms of their dramatic structure and emotional beats. They will work on and perform the scene with a partner. All materials will be provided.

Auditioning (July 9) – This workshop will focus on all aspects of the audition process. Students will get to work on cold readings from scripts. They will review how to present themselves in an audition, break down material, make interesting choices quickly and gain self-confidence necessary to audition for theatrical roles.

Musical Theatre (July 16) – Students will work on a group number from a current Broadway show, learn movement/choreography and work on acting the song. They will put it all together and perform the piece at the end of the evening. Parents are welcome to return at 8:55pm that evening and watch the class’ creation. This workshop will be co-taught by Dana Brazil and Judy Evans.

The workshops will run on Monday evenings from 6:00 – 9:00PM at the Williamston Theatre, 122 S. Putnam Street in downtown Williamston. Cost is $25 per workshop or $80 for all 4 workshops. Payment is due one week prior to the first workshop being attended. Each workshop is limited to 16 students (minimum to conduct workshop is 6). For more information or to register for workshops, call the Williamston Theatre at 517-655-7469, Tuesday – Friday from Noon-6PM.

The Williamston Theatre is a not-for-profit, professional live theatre company, dedicated to producing plays that excite, engage and entertain our audiences. The theatre opened its doors in 2006 and has received a number of local awards including the 2008 Robert Busby Award for
