Two Muses Theatre Announces Fourth Season

Two Muses Theatre, a non-profit, professional theatre based in West Bloomfield, Michigan, will produce five shows in their fourth season.

Two Muses Theatre is thrilled to open their fourth season with the premiere of a brand new musical: At the Bistro Garden. Penned by Hollywood writer Deborah Pearl (Designing Women) and composer/lyricist David Kole, it's a sharply funny and touching look at the lives of three friends from Beverly Hills who lunch weekly at the famous Bistro Garden restaurant, circa 1980. Their friendship keeps them from shattering and helps them get through infidelities, betrayals, a daughter going astray, love lost, and love found. With songs like "Lovely Little Divorce," "My Ex-Husband Gets Married Today," "A Sale At Neiman's," and "Life Is Upsetting Enough," the audience will laugh and cry at the trials and triumphs of these "ladies who lunch." This production is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.

In November, Two Muses will present Jake's Women by Neil Simon. This semi-autobiographical comedy follows writer Jake as he battles writer's block while dealing with the imaginary demons of his past relationships, including those with his late first wife, his second wife, and his 12-year-old daughter, as well as with others who may (or may not) be figments of his vivid imagination. Neil Simon fans are very familiar with his popular play, Chapter Two, which introduced some of these characters. In fact, New York Times critic Frank Rich termed the play "A New Chapter in the Sex Wars."

In April of 2015, Two Muses will present God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza (Art), translated by Christopher Hampton (adaptations of Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Sunset Boulevard).

This biting comedy won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2009 and was dubbed a comedy of manners-without the manners. It pits two couples against each other after their sons have engaged in a playground fight and suggests that the veneer of civilization we don as our public face may be thinner than we dare admit. Come see why it was the third-longest-running Broadway play of the 2000's (behind The 39 Steps and August: Osage County) as Two Muses tackles this hilarious award-winning play.

To close the season, Two Muses Theatre will present Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris, member of the famed Chicago-based Steppenwolf Theater. Clybourne Park won the 2012 Tony Award, the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and the 2011 Olivier Award for Best New Play. Mr. Norris wrote this piece as a response to A Raisin in the Sun, in fact, extrapolating on some of the more-minor characters from that piece from a different perspective. This fascinating script, both hilarious and appalling, focuses on the still-timely issues of race and integration, and it is sure to be talked about long after you exit the theater.
