Tony Award-Winning Musical RENT to be Performed at Bloomfield Hills, 6/26

By:

Project DayDream's upcoming production RENT will open the local arts organization's summer production season on June 26 at The Congregational Church of Birmingham (CCB), an Open and Affirming congregation in Bloomfield Hills.

Notes director Tiffany Victoria Sims of her partnership with The Congregational Church of Birmingham, "We are proud to be affiliated with an organization that not only supports arts education companies such as ours, but also serves as a safe haven for our students. CCB has opened their doors to us for rehearsals for the last ten years, and we are now delighted to use this space to perform our shows."

RENT is set in the East Village of New York City, and this revolutionary rock musical is a retelling of the classic Puccini opera, La Bohème. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, RENT has become a cultural phenomenon with a story that resonates with audiences of all ages.

Tiffany Victoria Sims, Founder and Artistic Director of Project DayDream, highlights RENT as a change in her organization's history of family-friendly shows. "RENT deals with often controversial topics such as homelessness, AIDS, and drug addiction. We wanted to give our performers an opportunity to learn about these issues, and to perform the show in a venue where we can help increase tolerance and understanding. It is also very fitting that we are performing RENT in June, the month for LGBT pride. We look forward to sharing this inspiring story of acceptance that will help teach both performers and audience members to be proud of who they are."
