Slipstream Theatre Initiative Presents THE TAMING OF THE SHREW

Slipstream Theatre Initiative is proud to close its first season with The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare. This classic battle of the sexes takes on new life when given to a group of Slipstream regulars and vibrant students.

As we continue to define and redefine gender identity in today's society, we might be surprised by how the next generation acknowledges the subject. This interactive production allows the audience and actors to have an ongoing dialogue about perceived gender roles, and offers a unique approach to the concept. Presented with no intermission and a solid 75 minute run time, the cast will charm you out of your seats and into the world of Pink & Blue. Which side are you on?

This ensemble production features four Slipstream regulars, six high school and college students, and one high school technical theatre director (a fan favorite). In the title roles of Katharina and Petruchio are Slipstream founding members Luna Alexander and Steve Xander Carson, respectively. Slipstream Technical Director Ryan Ernst steps into the aged role of Gremio, while Patrick Flanagan leaves the heels behind for the over compensating Hortensio. John Verloove from West Bloomfield High School plays the heavily grieved father Baptista. West Bloomfield students David Wilson, Madeleine Hughes, Lauren Alo and Jackson Abohasira play the hysterical sidekicks Biondello, Grumio, Curtis, and Tranio respectively. Recent high school graduates Maxim Vinogradov and Claire Jolliffe take on the young lovers, Lucentio and Bianca. Direction and costume design are by Bailey Boudreau, with Technical direction by Ryan Ernst.

The renowned classic opens Sunday, July 19th and runs Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays at 7:00 pm through August 4th. Tickets are $10, by reservation ONLY, and available online at www.slipstreamti.com. Slipstream continues its mission to give back with each production by pairing with HeForShe as the partner charity for this show. HeForShe is an international organization dedicated to gender equality. This is the last show of Slipstream's first season.
