The Legends of Hip Hop featuring Big Daddy Kane, Doug E Fresh, MC Lyte, Slick Rick, Sugarhill Gang, Rob Base and Whodini will come together for one night at the Fox Theatre on Saturday, May 18 at 8 p.m.

Grammy Award-winning rapper, Big Daddy Kane, undisputedly defined the term "lyricist" in the world of hip hop. Receving a VH1 Hip Hop Honor in 2005, Kane's is recognized for revolutionizing hip hop fashion and the way shows were performed with theatrics, choreography and tailored costumes. Kane's hits include "Smooth Operator," "Warm It Up," "Hard Being The Kane" and "All Of Me".

The first human beatbox in the rap world, Doug E. Fresh is known for his impressive imitations of drum machines, effects and large samples of hip hop classics. His hits include "The Show/La Di Da Di," "Play This Only at Night," "All The Way to Heaven" and "Keep Risin' to the Top".

Grammy Award and BET award nominated artist MC Lyte was the first female rapper to release a full album in the late 80's. Lyte's roster of hits includes "Paper Thin," "Keep on, Keepin' On," "Cold Rock a Party" and "Poor Georgie".

Grammy Award-nominated Slick Rick has been called "hip hop's greatest storyteller with acclaimed recordings to include "Children's Story," "Hey Young World" and "Teenage Love". He first gained success in the rap industry by joining Doug E. Fresh's Get Fresh Crew and was featured on "La Di Da Di" and "The Show".

The Sugarhill Gang is most known for the hit "Rapper's Delight" and had other hits to include "Apache," "Eighth Wonder" "Rapper's Reprise" and "Showdown".

Whodini was among the first hip hop groups to add a straight R&B twist to their music, thus laying the groundwork for the new jack swing movement. The group made its name with good-humored songs like "Magic's Wand," The Haunted House of Rock" and "Freaks Come Out at Night".
