Grosse Pointe Theatre Announces Winter Classes for January, 2011

Learn about acting or try your hand at writing a play at Grosse Pointe Theatre this January. Grosse Pointe Theatre offers two stimulating courses at its rehearsal facility located at 315 Fisher Road in Grosse Pointe (between Lakeshore/Jefferson and Grosse Pointe Boulevard/Maumee).

Acting for Stage or Screen I is taught by professional actor Harry Burkey. This is a six-week course of basic acting and is recommended for both the beginning actor or actors who need a brush-up course. Video feedback will demonstrates that everyone is capable of performing for an audience. This class is a must for new and old alike! Class begins January 12 and runs for 6 weeks on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 PM.

Playwriting: The Ten-Minute Play: Award-winning playwright Kim Carney instructs and mentors students on the basics of dramatic structure, character creation and plot development as she assists them in writing their own short plays. Each student's piece will be read aloud and discussed as it progresses, and a few of the best will be selected for presentation before an audience at Grosse Pointe Theatre's spring showcase in May, 2011. The first class session is January 19 at 7:30 PM. Other sessions will be announced on the first day of class. Students will continual feedback via internet during the course.

Acting for Stage and Screen: Registration fee: $100.00 or $75.00 for Grosse Pointe Theatre members. Registration for the acting class closes on January 5, 2011.

Playwriting: The Ten Mininute Play. Registration fee: $125.00 or $100.00 for Grosse Pointe Theatre members. Registration for the playwriting class closes on January 12, 2011.
