Detroit Repertory Theatre to Host 3rd Annual RED NIGHT, 2/15

On Saturday, February 15, 2014, the Detroit Repertory Theatre welcomes the public to an evening of drama, music, romance, sweets and champagne at the Board of Trustees' annual "RED NIGHT" benefit beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 each and include the powerful and critically acclaimed play MY OCCASION, unlimited Champagne, sweets, the "Irma Wertz Patron of the Year" Award, and exciting packages to be raffled off. Everyone attending will enjoy champagne and hors d'oeuvres in the intimate, candle-lit atmosphere of the theatre's art gallery and lobby cocktail lounge. Onstage, the theatre will present the Wertz Patron of the Year Award followed by the powerful play MY OCCASION OF SIN by Monica Bauer. MY OCCASION OF SIN takes us to the 1969 Omaha race riots where four people of different races and backrounds are brought together through their love of music. After the show, guests enjoy champagne and jazz as the Board of Trustees announce the raffle winners.

Playwright Monica Bauer's MY OCCASION OF SIN takes us back to the 1969 Omaha race riot with a timely and gripping story about George and Helen Hollewinski who own an Accordion Store in a changing Omaha neighborhood. Luigi Wells, a jazz drummer, becomes part of the struggling Music Store. Two young girls, one black, one white, get caught up in the cross cultural music and racial clash. Out of the turmoil, old and new music seem to merge and point us to a ray of hope.
