Detroit Repertory Theatre Announces 62nd Season The Detroit Repertory Theatre, Michigan's longest running, nonprofit, professional (union) theatre, is excited to announce its 62nd Season. The four plays on the 2018/19 season include two world premieres and two midwest premieres. All four will open hearts and challenge the minds of the diverse audience that represents Southeast Michigan. The four plays are Evidence of Things Unseen by Katie Forgette, The House on Poe Street by Fengar Gael, Aubrey by Joe Musso, and Williston by Adam Seidel.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre has built a 62 year legacy on its non-traditional, casting policies - casting without regard to race, ethnicity, and sometimes gender, unless germane to the play. Many of the plays produced have come from the Rep's New Playwright Program, which attracts hundreds of submissions from all over the world annually.

Every production is directed, designed and performed by indigenous, professional theatre artists. The Detroit Repertory Theatre is proud to be a signatory of Actors' Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers. For over 60 years the Theatre has been providing opportunities for a career in theatre, with benefits, to Southeast Michigan artists.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre has been "comforting the disturbed and disturbing the comfortable" with the communal power of theatre since 1957. The 2018/19 Season will be no different, presenting stories that once again will make audiences laugh, cry, question the world and themselves, and ultimately, enlighten while entertaining.

About the Plays
Midwest Premiere

Evidence of Things Unseen by Katie Forgette Directed by Lynch Travis November 01 to December 23, 2018

*Special Black Tie Benefit on Saturday, November 17, 2018

Evidence of Things Unseen is about two sisters, Abigail, an investigative journalist and atheist, and Jane, a stay-at-home mom and born-again Christian. Evidence of Things Unseen is an intimate family story about differing responses to grief - revenge, sorrow, solace, faith, feeding ducks and bird watching, and the need to understand the actions of those nearest to us. Ms. Forgette's play A Facility for Living was produced at the Detroit Repertory Theatre in 2013 to much popular acclaim.

World Premiere The House of Poe by Fengar Gael Directed by Leah Smith January 10 to March 17, 2019 *Special Red Night Benefit on Saturday, February 16, 2019
In the dark comedy, The House of Poe, gothic ghosts encounter modern monstrosities when twin sisters inherit the house where Poe is reputed to have composed "The Raven". What ensues is a feminist sci-fi fantasy that explores presumptions of wealth, gender parity, genetic determinism, and the power of poetry to conjure visions of a spectral afterlife.

Ms. Gael's play Devil Dog Six received its Michigan Premiere on the Detroit Rep stage in 2016, garnering a "Best of Year" nod from the Detroit Free Press.

World Premiere Aubrey by Joe Musso Directed by Barbara Busby March 28 to May 19, 2019

Aubrey Gagnier, a heroin addict, haunted by her role in her lover's drug overdose death, seeks out Ivan Stillman, the grave digger and coffin maker. Aubrey believes Ivan can speak with the dead, which he denies. In spite of his denial, Aubrey implores Ivan to speak with her deceased lover. After her addiction creates chaos in his orderly world, Ivan reveals his tragic past. They soon become each other's best hope not just to survive, but to live. With opioid addiction all over the news, Aubrey is a topical story and will be Mr. Musso's first production on the Detroit Repertory stage.

Midwest Premiere Williston by Adam Seidel Directed by Casaundra Freeman May 30 to June 30, 2019

Three energy reps travel to Williston, ND to get mineral rights to the last big piece of undeveloped land. With highly relevant themes of environmental issues, Native American land, protest, and patriarchy, Williston is a scintillating exploration of how business corrupts people, and the fine line between commerce and conscience. This play has a strong message and contains strong language. Williston will be Mr. Seidel's playwright debut on the Detroit Repertory Theatre's stage.

The oldest professional (Union) non-profit theatre in the State of Michigan, the Detroit Repertory Theatre's mission is guided by the belief that the sense of community is stronger than the forces that splinter and that efforts to preserve unity deserve the same attention and support as the justly cultivated efforts to retain diversity. The implicit goal in all the theatre's efforts is to produce the best possible professional theatre while fostering cultural democratization of the arts, and fighting, by example, the disturbing level of racism that still exists.
