The Opera Society to Host “A Grand Russian Ball”

Florida Grand Opera's Broward Affiliate, The Opera Society will host a Gala on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The gala will support The Opera Society's mission to foster community interest in opera, promote friendship and provide charitable, educational and cultural projects throughout Broward County.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception in Peck Courtyard. At 5:45 PM guests will enjoy dinner and entertainment by the Barynya Balalaika duo in the Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom followed by a performance of Eugene Onegin in the Au-Rene Theater at 7:30 PM. After dinner guests will return to the Ballroom for Dancing and Dessert with the international cast.

The gala is being chaired by Mrs. Barbara Copanos and Dr. Linda Balent. "We are both honored to chair this milestone gala celebrating the 75th anniversary of Florida Grand Opera, the oldest and one of the most important cultural organizations in South Florida."

Individual ticket prices begin at $500 or $5,000 for a table of ten, and $750 individual ticket includes a photo opportunity with the cast or a table of ten for $7,500.

ABOUT THE OPERA SOCIETY

The Opera Society, one of the oldest cultural organizations in Fort Lauderdale, is an affiliate of Florida Grand Opera. It was established in 1978 to support the opera in Broward county. Twenty-two women and one man have served as President of this prestigious organization since then. The Founders' Committee includes Mrs. Louis Miller, Mrs. Russel Carson, Mrs. Clinton Gamble, Mrs Albert J.M. Novak and Mr. Leonard Robbins.

Florida Grand Opera (FGO), the oldest performing arts organization in Florida, celebrates its 75th Anniversary Season in 2016-17. The mainstage operas of the season include: Georges Bizet's Carmen, November 12-December 3, 2016; Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, January 28-February 11, 2017; Jorge Martín's Before Night Falls, March 18-25, 2017; and Giuseppe Verdi's A Masked Ball (Un Ballo in Maschera), April 29-May 6, 2017.

Founded in 1941 as Greater Miami Opera and later emerging with The Opera Guild Inc. in 1994, FGO presents a mixture of standard repertoire and contemporary works as well as commissions and new productions - all featuring projected translations in English and Spanish. FGO is recognized for funding by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
