The Lyric Presents Janis Ian in Concert, 3/21
Since she composed her first song at the age of 12, Janis Ian has been quietly penning some of the finest music ever written. Ian is most recognized for her early hits, including "Society's Child," and the blockbuster tune "At Seventeen," which earned her two Grammy Awards (out of a record five nominations).
Ian's songs - including the better-known "Jesse" and "Stars," -- have been recorded by an astounding array of artists, such as Chet Atkins, Cher, Chicago, Amy Grant, Puff Daddy, Etta James, John Mellencamp and Mel Tormé - to name a few. She recently published, "Society's Child: My Autobiography," to rave reviews.
One of Ian's most remarkable strengths is her engaging stage presence. Her incredibly heartfelt live performances are funny, moving and riveting. It's hard to believe that one woman and her guitar can hold an audience spellbound, but Ian does just that every time she takes the stage.
You'll discover new material and perhaps some songs you never knew that Ian wrote, as she showcases a repertoire that is alternately touching, powerful and humorous. The Lyric is an ideal venue to experience this well-known yet often "undiscovered" artist and her incredible music legacy.
