The Ahn Trio Come To The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall 1/22/2010

By:

Violin and chamber music aficionados are among the most enthusiastic audiences of The Ahn Trio, performing on Friday, Jan. 22 at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall at 8pm. Tickets are $20-$45 (with a limited number of "smart seats" priced at $10).

Born in Seoul, Korea and educated at Julliard in New York City, the members of the "Ahn Trio"- sisters Maria, Lucia and Angella- are redefining the art and architecture of chamber music. Through transcribed classic rock pieces such as the Doors' "Riders in the Storm" and commissioned new works from visionary composers like Kenji Bunch, Maurice Jarre, Nikolai Kapustin and Michael Nyman, the "Ahn Trio" is breathing new life into the standard trio.

The sisters thrive on eliminating barriers between art forms, fusing their work with that of dancers, pop singers, DJ's, electronic music artists and others. The program includes works commissioned by visionary composers including Pat Metheny, Paul Chihara, Michael Nyman and David Balakrishnan to name a few. They have long been the subject of international press and were recently named three of People Magazine's 50 most Beautiful People. The "Ahn Trio's" unique mix of talent, vitality and innovation earns the respect of seasoned classical music fans and draws new audiences to the genre. "Their technique was impressive, and they balanced unanimity and individuality in a spirit that is at the heart of chamber music."-The Washington Post

The Ahn Trio at the Van Wezel is sponsored by The Van Wezel Foundation and the WUSF Public Broadcasting.
