Riverside Theatre presents BUYER & CELLAR Riverside Theatre, led by Producing Artistic Director/CEO Allen D. Cornell and Managing Director/COO Jon R. Moses, present the very funny play by Jonathan Tolins, Buyer & Cellar. Sponsored by Ray & Sonia McGowan, Bill & Judy Schneebeck, and Riverside Theatre's Patron Producers Group, Buyer & Cellar performs on the Waxlax Stage from March 20 - April 8, 2018.

Buyer & Cellar, a comical one-man show, features struggling actor Alex More from Los Angeles who has just been fired from his job at Disneyland. However, Alex can't believe his good fortune since he has just been hired as the new curator for a museum in Malibu. Oddly enough, the museum is located in the basement of Barbra Streisand's estate. With old fashioned Main Street store fronts, the museum houses Ms. Streisand's collection of costumes, dolls, and trinkets.

When the superstar comes down for a visit, a real bonding takes place, but will that friendship transfer out of the cellar? Conversing with the audience, Alex playfully shares his interactions with Barbra, complications with his boyfriend Barry, and other absurd, yet hilarious anecdotes.

Author Jonathan Tolins took inspiration for the play from a 2010 book published by Ms. Streisand.

Called My Passion for Design, the book is an elaborate volume of photos and descriptions of her personal collections. Mr. Tolins began to imagine scenarios where an unemployed actor, and true fan, would be given the pleasure and responsibility to oversee some of her "favorite things."

The play begins with a disclaimer. The actor explains what is true (the mall in the Barbra's basement inspired by Henry Ford's museum in Delaware), and what is made up (everything that happens).

Buyer & Cellar opened at the Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre in New York City on April 2013 and then opened Off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theatre on June 24, 2013 and closed in 2014. The production starred Michael Urie (from TV's "Ugly Betty") and was directed by Stephen Brackett.

Winner of the 2014-2015 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show, Buyer & Cellar was a hit with audiences and critics alike:

`

"This seriously funny slice of absurdist whimsy creates the illusion of a stage filled with multiple people, all of them with their own droll point of view." - The New York Times

"A fantasy so delightful you wish it were true." -The New Yorker

"Hilarious! Beyond brilliant!" - Entertainment Weekly

"Fantastically funny." -New York Post

Riverside's production of Buyer & Cellar will be directed by James Brennan and stars Remy Germinario as Alex More.

The design and production crew includes: Richard Crowell (Scenic Design), Anna Hillbery (Costume Design), Sarah Elliott (Lighting Design), Josh Maywood (Sound Design), and Audrey M. Brown (Production Stage Manager). Casting was done in New York City by Wojcik / Seay Casting.
