Martha Graham Dance Company Returns to Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall 2/3

The Martha Graham Dance Company, the oldest and most celebrated contemporary dance company in America, returns to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $40-$60 (with a limited number of "smart seats" priced at $30).

The evening's program is scheduled to include: Prelude and Revolt, Lamentation Variations, Errand Into the Maze and Appalachian Spring.

Anna Kisselgoff, former chief dance critic of The New York Times, called the Martha Graham Dance Company "one of the great companies of the world."

Alan M. Kriegsman of the Washington Post referred to the Company as "one of the seven wonders of the artistic universe."

Founded in 1926 by dancer and choreographer Martha Graham, the Company has received international acclaim from audiences in over 50 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Graham developed an original technique involving the expression of primal emotions through stylized bodily movement of great intensity. Although she herself is the best-known alumna of her company, having danced from the Company's inception until the late 1960's, the Company has provided a training ground for some of modern dance's most illustrious performers and choreographers. Former members include Merce Cunningham, ERick Hawkins, Pearl Lang, Elisa Monte, Paul Taylor, Glen Tetley, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Donlin Foreman and Pascal Rioult.
The Dance Series at the Van Wezel continues with The Israel Ballet (Feb. 11) and the Joffrey Ballet (Mar. 8).
