Maltz Jupiter Theatre Announces $10 Million Endowment

By:

The Maltz Family Foundation has announced an exceptional gift: a three-to-one matching challenge grant to secure a $10 million endowment for the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.

The challenge requires the Theatre to raise $2.5 million by June 30, 2012, to receive $7 million from the foundation. This, added to its existing $500,000, will bring the total endowment level to $10 million.

The endowment is an investment in the future, providing ongoing financial security while enabling continued excellence and innovation. The principal of the fund will be carefully invested and remain whole, with earnings that will support the Theatre’s artistic and educational programs on an ongoing basis.

“We have been privileged to provide financial stability that the theatre needs to remain an artistic jewel in our community,” said Milton Maltz, founder and chairman of the Theatre’s board of directors. “We encourage the rest of the community to join us in ensuring its future.”

During an initial quiet phase, the Theatre has raised more than $1.62 million for the endowment. Now, the Theatre needs to raise an additional $875,000 to secure the $7 million match.

“Please help us to keep great theater alive,” said the Theatre’s managing director, Tricia Trimble. “We need the community’s help to achieve our goal by June 30, with donations that can be made in multi-year pledges. I cannot emphasize how much of a difference this endowment could make for our Theatre and the region.”

The Theatre has formed a separate 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization – the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Endowment – with the sole purpose of investing funds and supporting projects that will secure the Theatre’s future. Harvey Golub, former CEO and chairman of American Express, will serve as chairman of the endowment board, and Theatre board members Milton Maltz and Joan Bildner will also join the new board.

“It’s incredible to imagine what this Theatre could become over the next ten years supported by a $10 endowment,” Golub said. “Like any nonprofit theatre, ticket sales and subscriptions are never enough to sustain operations. An endowment will provide the Maltz Jupiter Theatre with the opportunity to dream big, plan wisely and have the financial resources to provide a rich cultural life for our community.”

About the theater: "Since its inception nine seasons ago, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre has become one of Florida’s preeminent professional theatres, committed to artistic excellence, production and education through its collaborations with local and national artists. As the state’s largest award-winning regional theatre, the Theatre boasts a subscription base of more than 7,000 and has world-class classroom facilities in support of its Conservatory of Performing Arts, which serves hundreds of youth and adults."

“When reached, this unprecedented offer will enable the Theatre to continue growing far into the future,” said the Theatre’s artistic director, Andrew Kato. “It will ensure the Theatre’s ability to continue producing classic musicals and dramatic works, develop visionary new work, maintain state-of-the-art facilities for our Theatre and Conservatory and remain a cultural treasure in the community.”
