Lyric Theater Welcomes THE BACON BROTHERS 11/22
Sunday, November 22 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Long before Kevin Bacon became a movie star and pop culture phenom, and before his older brother Michael became an Emmy award-winning film and television composer, the Philadelphia-based sibling duo had begin their musical collaboration.
In fact, the Bacons have been writing songs and playing music together since they were young enough to fight over their Lincoln Logs or little green army guys. By the late 1960s, Michael, who was by then a professional musician, would perform with his band at Philadelphia's famed Electric Factory, with a young Kevin often tagging along.
Michael and Kevin first officially performed as The Bacon Brothers in 1995, when they received an invitation to play a one-off gig at a local Philly club. Sold-out performances in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Chicago and San Francisco followed, including a high-profile opening for The Band at Carnegie Hall. Their latest CD, "New Year's Day," is their sixth full-length release. In April 2009 they recorded "Private Sessions," which aired on the A & E network.
The brothers' chemistry is evident as they perform their original rootsy blend of rock ‘n roll, country, folk and blues - Michael on vocals, guitar and cello, Kevin on vocals, guitar, harmonica and percussion. Now 14 years into their musical partnership, The Bacon Brothers continue to be a top live draw, performing to an ever-expanding and appreciative following nationwide.
