Inspiring Benefit Performance Coming To The Maltz Jupiter Theatre, 2/21

Imagine attending a musical performance with a powerful message that benefits a great cause.

If that speaks to your heart, you won't want to miss The Children of Willesden Lane, a benefit performance taking place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. In this educational and eye-opening evening, Mona Golabek performs a one-woman show that tells the incredible story of her mother, Lisa Jura, a teenage refugee who survived the Holocaust and forever changed the lives of her contemporaries.

"A deeply moving and heartfelt tale," wrote The Washington Post, while Meryl Streep raved it is "an inspiring tribute to the power of a mother's love."

A Grammy nominee, Golabek has appeared at the Hollywood Bowl, the Kennedy Center, Royal Festival Hall and with major conductors and orchestras worldwide. She has been the subject of several documentaries, including Concerto for Mona with conductor Zubin Mehta. Mona was taught by her mother, who first inspired Golabek's book The Children of Willesden Lane. Co-authored by Lee Cohen, the book has been embraced by many thousands of students across America and Europe.

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre is proud to present this special production of The Children of Willesden Lane as a benefit for inSIGHT Through Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching the lessons of the Holocaust and other genocides, fighting prejudice and encouraging acceptance and respect through education.

Through a grant from inSIGHT, more than 2,000 Palm Beach County middle and high school students have been invited to attend daytime performances of The Children of Willesden Lane at the Theatre on February 20 and 21. The all-volunteer organization has also provided schools with classroom sets of Golabek's best-selling book for study and discussion.

"The Maltz Jupiter Theatre is happy to donate the Theatre to inSIGHT Through Education for this benefit performance that will enable the organization to fund daytime school performances for local students and other educational initiatives," said Andrew Kato, the Theatre's producing artistic director and chief executive.

The project was made possible through the support of Milton and Tamar Maltz, the Karp Family Foundation, One World Davis Family Tolerance Project, a program of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County and the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. The Children of Willesden Lane is sponsored by Kretzer Piano; tickets are $45 and $55.
