'Gone With the Wind' Comedy Gusts to SouthEast

By:

Opening the season at Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre is the South Florida Premiere of the hilarious new comedy, MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS by Ron Hutchinson, playing from October 11-November 12, 2006.

MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS is the imaginative retelling of the writing of the screenplay Gone with the Wind. What went on behind a producer's closed doors in 1939 is cleverly reenacted by some of Actors' Playhouse's most popular actors. The play introduces us to famous Hollywood producer David O. Selznick, (played by Gary Marachek,) as he tries to find the right director and writer to fix the screenplay that has failure written all over it. With just days to spare, he calls in script doctor Ben Hecht, (played by Wayne LeGette;) to remedy what's already passed through many hands, including that of F. Scott Fitzgerald. After firing popular Hollywood director George Cukor, Selznick swiftly offers the job to Victor Fleming, (played by Gordon McConnell,) before he loses any impatient stars. Fleming leaves the set of The Wizard of Oz to come to the rescue. Now, with the right people presumably in place, all is smooth sailing. Or is it?

With no time to lose, these men of the silver screen assemble in Selznick's office. They have no idea what they're in for, and yet for 5 days they labor away to create a masterpiece of cinema history. For sustenance, they live on nothing but peanuts and bananas - Selznick's "brain food" -- brought in by an overworked but dedicated secretary, Miss Poppenghul. In the process, tempers flare, a coma is induced, a blood vessel is popped, and egos are hurt. To add to the pressure, Selznick and Fleming must act out the story for Hecht who refuses to read Margaret Mitchell's best-selling epic of love and war.

Under the direction of David Arisco, these Actors' Playhouse acting veterans promise to deliver tour-de-force performances. The creative team of MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS is comprised of set designer Gene Seyffer, costume designer Ananda Keator, lighting designer, Patrick Tennent, and sound designer, Nate Rausch.

MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS previews October 11th & 12th. Gala Opening Night will be October 13th and plays through November 12, 2006.
