Comedy Highlights the 2009 Summer Season
Florida Studio Theatre Announces Its 2009 Summerfest Season

An energizing party, escapism and a hilarious look at Shakespeare make up FST's 2009 Summerfest Season. The Summerfest Season plays from June 3 through August 21 in the Keating and Gompertz Theatres.  A Subscription to all 3 plays can be purchased for ½ off box office pricing. Packages range from $29-$42.

Artistic Director, Richard Hopkins stated, "FST's summer season is lighthearted fare. A Marvelous Party! has  'a talent to amuse' with song and Shirley Valentine  has a talent to inspire with humor and pathos, while The Complete Works of William Shakespeare has a talent to mine humor through the bards own words and the antics of 3 comedic actors playing all the great roles.  FST is a summer refuge of humor, smarts, and intimate theatre at its best."

Florida Studio Theatre kicks off its 2009 summer season with A Marvelous Party! The Noël Coward Celebration. Variety called it "Energetic...Outstanding." You are invited to a party! A dazzling evening of ravishing melody and witty repartee, A Marvelous Party draws from Noël coward's songs, plays, and journals in an effervescent revue. Songs include "Mad About the Boy," "I'll Follow My Heart," "I've Been to a Marvelous Party" and more. A Marvelous Party! The Noël Coward Celebration begins June 3rd.

A Marvelous Party! The Noël Coward Celebration (words and music by Noël Coward, devised by David Ira Goldstein, Mark Anders and Patricia Wilcox and Musical Arrangements by Carl Danielsen) will star co-creator Carl Danielsen, who last appeared at FST in I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change and 2 Pianos 4 Hands.  Also starring are New York Actress Stefanie Morse and Broadway Actor Robin Haynes. The band will include Todd Lindemood on Piano and Tony Bruno on drums. Director Fred Weiss will return to FST, after most recently directing Showtune.

The adventurous Shirley Valentine begins July 1st. Written by Willy Russell it received the Olivier Award for Best Comedy. An ordinary housewife sets out on an extraordinary adventure. When her best friend wins an all-expenses-paid vacation to Greece, Shirley Valentine leaves behind the confines of her kitchen, and marriage, for a spontaneous trip of self-discovery.

Shirley Valentine, a one-woman show will star Broadway Actress Susan Greenhill, who most recently starred in FST's Stage III production of ...and L.A. is Burning and last summer's hit Southern Comforts. The production will be directed by FST's Kate Alexander, who most recently directed the mainstage hit Black Pearl Sings!

Beginning July 29th, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) by Jess Borgeson, Adam Long and Daniel Singer will take audiences on a wild, fast-paced frolic through the works of Shakespeare. All 37 plays in less than two hours! You've never seen the classics performed like this. London's longest running comedy comes complete with a hip-hop Othello and The Histories: The Football Game. This is Shakespeare for those who don't think they like Shakespeare - and especially for those who do.

The production will be directed by Orlando Shakespeare Theater's Jim Helsinger, who returns after last summer's The Mystery of Irma Vep.

The first and third show in the Summerfest Season - A Marvelous Party! The Noël Coward Celebration and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) - will be presented at FST's Keating Theatre.  The second show Shirley Valentine will be presented at the Gompertz Theatre. Single tickets range from $19 for previews to $29-32 for regular performances.  A subscription to all 3 shows ranges from $29-42.  Subscription tickets and single tickets may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person, by phone (941) 366-9000 or online at www.floridastudiotheatre.org.
