FST Improv Kicks Off Their Summer Laughs With The Goldstein Cabaret 6/13

Cool off this summer with laughs as FST Improv returns! Everyone is talking about the "new norm," what does that mean?!? If it is up to the FST Improv it is unpredictable fun! The 6th Season of FST Improv begins again June 13th in the Goldstein Cabaret. Tickets are priced at an affordable $12!

"Everywhere you go the news is dark. The economy has imploded, we are still at war, and for some reason we all are forced to know that Jon and Kate are having marital problems and that Speidi quit I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. At times like these we could all use a laugh or a drink. With Improv you get both." says Director Rebecca Langford. "We are the beginning of a new normal according to the talking heads. With that new normal there comes the new abnormal-that's gonna be the fun part. We are looking forward to delving into it this summer!"
FST Improv member Adam Ratner added, "Yea Improv! Where I get to pretend to be all things I failed at in real life..." on his return to the stage.
Taking what is right in front of them, in the form of audience suggestions, FST Improv creates characters and sketches on the spot. No one - not even the performers themselves - knows what is going to happen next. It is this element of the unknown that makes every Improv show unique - and what makes for some exciting moments onstage.
The FST Improv cast you will be laughing with are Christine Alexander, Andrew Bailes, Tim Beasley, Catey Brennan, Chris Friday, Darryl Knapp, Angel Parker, Adam Ratner, Steve Turrisi, and Jim Prosser and Katie Kring on piano. Rebecca Langford directs.

FST Improv performances begin Saturday, June 13th. Shows are Saturday Nights at 8:30 in the Goldstein Cabaret. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. with general admission seating and a cash bar. Known as Sarasota's Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman's Club building - now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its three theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret and its newest space, the Gompertz Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director and CEO, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world.
