Destination Sistrunk: Cultural Marketplace to Highlight the Holiday Season in Sistrunk

Broward County's inaugural Cultural Marketplace is a unique gathering space that will showcase cultural and creative assets of Fort Lauderdale's historic African-American Sistrunk neighborhood.

Following the Light Up Sistrunk annual event hosted on Dec. 2, by the City of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County celebrates the Dec. 3 Marketplace with live performances, local vendors and cultural offerings.

Free entry for the public, the marketplace presents local performances by:

Also kicking off the festive December month with community pride is the Destination Sistrunk cultural tourism program which encourages residents and visitors to discover Fort Lauderdale's African American history through wayfinding and historic markers; a Black heritage trolley and walking tour; an interactive website; and this cultural marketplace, visit DestinationSistrunk.com.

It all takes place at Delevoe Park, 2520 NW 6th St. in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, December 3, 2 - 6 pm.

Broward Cultural Division is a local arts agency, one of thousands across the U.S. providing financial, technical and marketing assistance to artists and arts organizations. Destination Sistrunk is a new cultural tourism program presented by Broward Cultural Division, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau and Old Dillard Museum. It encourages residents and visitors to discover Fort Lauderdale's African American history and includes: history and wayfinding markers; a Black heritage trolley and walking tour; an interactive website; and a cultural marketplace.

Cultural tourism is an important tool for celebrating, preserving and promoting unique heritage. It is also an effective way to stimulate the local, creative economy. It increases opportunities for artists, encourages public participation in the arts and facilitates cultural commerce.
