DIAL M FOR MURDER to Kick Off Maltz Jupiter Theatre's 2013-14 Season, 10/27-11/10

By: Oct. 14, 2013

What do you do when somebody wants you dead? Would you kill for money?

Deception, jealousy and lies all make for the perfect mystery as the Maltz Jupiter Theatre kicks off its 2013/14 season with the thrilling classic drama Dial M for Murder. With shows that run October 27 - November 10, the plot follows a husband's plot to kill his unfaithful wife for money. But will his ingenious plan be exposed when the perfect murder goes awry? A hair-raising murder mystery filled with forbidden love, blackmail and backstabbers, this thriller will keep you on The Edge of your seat.

"Dial M for Murder is a compelling drama of suspense and intrigue, continuing in the tradition of past productions of Deathtrap and Sleuth," said the Theatre's producing artistic director, Andrew Kato.

Made popular by the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock film (as well as New York and London productions), the drama's success single-handedly reinvented the popularity of the murder mystery play in America and Great Britain. Critics hailed the work as the perfect murder gone wrong; a dark, dangerous whodunit.

Directed by multiple Carbonell Award-winning South Florida director J. Barry Lewis (who recently directed the Theatre's production of Doubt: A Parable), the show will star several acclaimed South Florida actors, including Carbonell Award winners Jim Ballard (Father Flynn in the Theatre's production ofDoubt: A Parable) as Max, Todd Allen Durkin as Tony and Gregg Weiner as Lesgate. Dan Leonard Will portray the police officer Thompson.

"The writing in this play is brilliant. It reverses the earlier mystery writing concept that a murder has been committed and must be solved - with the devilish conceit that the murder is a cleverly contrived plan of action," Lewis said. "What we now have is a study of the human condition. Will the murderer succeed, or be exposed? We hope that the result is an edge-of-the-seat journey through the dark recesses of the mind."

Claire Brownell (whose credits include The 39 Steps on Broadway) will portray Margot, and Colin McPhillamy (Broadway's Waiting in the Wings and The Importance of Being Earnest) will portray Hubbard.
