Cuba's Art Schools Form Theme of

Opera-in-Progress by Stamps Series Visiting Artists

The University of Miami Frost School of Music continues the Stamps Family Distinguished Visitors Series with Anthony Davis, Dafnis Prieto, and Charles Koppelman. They will be  'In Conversation,' discussing their opera-in- progress, Revolution of Forms.  The opera examines the rise and fall of Cuba's National Art Schools.  The work is presented through the eyes of architect Ricardo Porro, who helped design these national schools.

The creative team, Davis, Prieto and Koppelman, will visit the campus on Monday, March 30 at 8 p.m. for a Conversation on the genesis and development of Revolution of Forms.  The conversation will be held at the Victor E. Clarke Recital Hall located at 5501 San Amaro Drive.  Free admission.  RSVP to (305) 284-4940

Excerpts from Revolution of Forms will be performed on Tuesday, March 31 at 8 p.m. by composer/jazz pianist Anthony Davis, composer/percussionist Dafnis Prieto, and featured guest artist, tenor Thomas Young at Gusman Concert Hall. Curated by Alan Johnson, program director of UM's Frost Opera Theater, the performance will feature singers from the Florida Grand Opera Young Artist Program and UM faculty and alumni. Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, on the UM campus, is located at 1314 Miller Drive. The performance is free and open to the public.  No RSVP required.

The conversation and performance of Revolution of Forms continue the Stamps Family Distinguished Visitor Series.  Recent guests have included composers Philip Glass and John Corigliano, jazz artists Joshua Redman and Ramsey Lewis.  This series is made possible with the generous support of Roe and Penny Stamps. The program, now in its sixth year, brings distinguished musicians and composers together with music students from the University of Miami in performance, lecture, and master class activities.
