Broward Stage Door Theatre KNISH ALLEY Reschedules Opening Night for July 17th

By:

Executive Producer Derelle Bunn announced today that, due to reasons of ill health, Jeffrey Bruce has withdrawn from the Broward Stage Door Theatre Company's world premiere production of Tony Finstrom's award-winning comedy KNISH ALLEY!

The official opening of the new play, previously set for July 10th, will now take place on July 17th, with Steven Chambers assuming the role Bruce vacates; that of an aging Yiddish Theatre star loosely fashioned after the great Jacob Adler.

Set in the early 1900s, KNISH ALLEY! tells the story of a poor troupe of Yiddish actors on board an ocean liner, as it crosses from England to America, who work menial jobs on the ship by day and perform operettas up on deck by night to earn their passage to a new and better life they hope awaits them on New York's lower east side, on Second Avenue, otherwise known as "KNISH ALLEY!"

Playwright Finstrom says "It's a fond look back at the way things were, and the way things might have been, on board such a ship bound for a new land, a new language, and the promise of a new beginning."

Stage Door's Artistic Director Dan Kelley directs a cast that now includes Steven Chambers, Todd Bruno, Miki Edelman, David Hemphill, Kally Khourshid, Jaime Libbert and Kevin Reilly.

Ray Callahan is the Production Stage Manager, and the play features sets by Stage Door Scenic, costumes by Costume World Theatrical, lighting by Ardean Landhuis, and Sound by Martin Mets.

This charming comedy that pays tribute to the acting legends of the day -- Adler, Thomashevsky, Kessler -- won the Palm Beach Dramaworks' Playwright's Festival award for Best New Play, and was developed through a series of staged readings at Dania Beach's On The Boards Theatre Company and at the Boca Raton Theatre Guild.

Other plays by Finstrom previously produced in South Florida include LARGER-THAN LIFE at the Public Theatrre of South Florida, and AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT, OR THE FAMOUS TRAGIC HISTORY OF LADY Jane Grey (City Link's "Best Play of the Season," Carbonell Award nomination for "Best New Work") at Fort Lauderdale's Footlights Inc Theater Company.

The Stage Door Theatre is about to begin its 16th season as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, professional theatre company, operating two theatres in Coral Springs.

KNISH ALLEY! runs at the Stage Door Theatre #2, 8036 W. Sample Rd., Coral Springs, FL 33065, from July 17th to August 30th on Wed., Sat. & Sun. at 2:00 PM, and Fri. & Sat. at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $33.25. For reservations call (954) 344-7765, or go to www.stagedoorteatre.com.
