GableStage at the Biltmore in association with Jay Harris presents the Southeastern Premiere of Blackbird--- opening March 6th and running thru March 30th. This award-winning play by David Harrower tells the brutal and shattering truth of a very unconventional love affair.

The cast features Gordon McConnell, Carbonell Best Actor (Frozen at GableStage in 2005) and a new actress who will be making her first appearance at GableStage, Julliard graduate, Mary Rasmussen.

Blackbird was acclaimed by critics and audiences in New York and London. The play premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2005, then transferred to London in 2007 where it won an Olivier Award for Best New Play, beating out Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n Roll and Peter Morgan's Frost/Nixon. In New York last season, at the Manhattan Theatre Club, it received a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Play.

The Associated Press called it, "a play of revenge and sexual intrigue, with undeniable shock value!"  "The most powerful drama of the season! Sustained intensity!" said the New York Times.
