The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County announced new and ongoing partnerships for the 2010-2011 CARNIVAL STUDIO THEATER SEASON, featuring four dynamic programming initiatives: THE BEST OF SOUTH FLORIDA, GROUNDBREAKING NEW WORK, CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL THEATER, and FAMILY-FRIENDLY THEATRICAL HITS - all presented in the Carnival Studio Theater in the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House. This diverse new season highlights world-class theater, dance, and music that breaks boundaries, cross-pollinates artistic genres, and expands the future of the performing arts.

"The CARNIVAL STUDIO THEATER SEASON is an exciting and unique new opportunity for South Florida to experience groundbreaking new work by local, national, and International Artists in an intimate performance setting," said M. John Richard, president and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center. "Collaborating with the best arts organizations in our community and the most innovative artists working across genres allows the Adrienne Arsht Center to present a tremendous array of original performances, with something for everyone in Miami."

Programming for the 2010-2011 season in the CARNIVAL STUDIO THEATER features the following:

THE BEST OF SOUTH FLORIDA!

In an effort to support and expand the performance opportunities for stellar local artists and arts organizations, the Adrienne Arsht Center launches a series of unique partnerships this season. The collaborations provide a world-class stage for established and emerging Miami-based artists to showcase their work and can also include artistic guidance, marketing support and, in some cases, financial assistance. Partnerships for the 2010-2011 season include a second co-presentation with Mad Cat Theatre, following the success of BroadSword in the 2009-2010 season; the premiere engagement of Miami's newest artistic collaborative, Zoetic Stage; and showcase opportunities for groups that have long represented Miami's diverse performing arts community (Brazz Dance Theater, M Ensemble), plus ongoing partnerships with City Theatre and Teatro Avante.

The Adrienne Arsht Center and Mad Cat Theatre Company present

GOING GREEN THE WONG WAY - World Premiere

November 18-20, 2010

Tickets: $35

Performance art meets stand-up comedy when Miami's award-winning Mad Cat Theatre Company returns to the Adrienne Arsht Center. This time, Mad Cat Theatre founder and artistic director Paul Tei teams up with irreverent West Coast performer Kristina Wong in her side-splitting comedy Going Green the Wong Way. Described as "Brutal but hilarious...a woman who takes life's absurdities very seriously," Wong burns up the stage with signature humor and inventive theatrics as she takes the audience along the pitfalls and triumphs of sustainable living. This is a love story about a girl and the biodiesel car that betrayed her, a vehicularly-impaired Robinson Crusoe travelogue across America, and an earth-scorching treatise on global consumerism. Along the way she's guided by shifty hipsters fronting as mechanics, oil-soaked birds, and catcalling DUI lawyers.

Tickets go on sale to Adrienne Arsht Center members on August 30, and to the general public on September 12. Tickets may be purchased through the Adrienne Arsht Center box office by calling (305) 949-6722, or online at www.arshtcenter.org.

McKeever is South Florida's most successful playwright and his plays have been produced throughout the United States and Europe. He has been nominated numerous times for the Carbonell Award for Best New Work and has won the honor three times.

Tickets go on sale to Adrienne Arsht Center members on August 30, and to the general public on September 12. Tickets may be purchased through the Adrienne Arsht Center box office by calling (305) 949-6722, or online at www.arshtcenter.org.

The Adrienne Arsht Center and M Ensemble present

CROWNS by ReGina Taylor

February 2011 - Dates TBD

Tickets: $35

M Ensemble, Florida's oldest existing black theater group, celebrates the glorious millinery of church-going African-American women with CROWNS, a play with music, at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Written by ReGina Taylor, and based on Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry's book Crowns, Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats, the stunning stage adaptation highlights the role of hats in Southern black culture, the endurance of black women in the South, and the unconquerable urge for self-expression. CROWNS traces the journey of Yolanda, a street-smart kid from Brooklyn sent to live with her grandmother in South Carolina after her brother is shot. Culture Clash ensues when Yolanda's hip-hop swagger clashes with the down-home church crowd. Lively speeches, songs, dances, and dramatic action shape this touching story of one young woman's journey and a community's sacred history. CROWNS delivers the gospel on hats.

REPLICA
by Daniel Arsham, Jonah Bokaer, and Judith Sanchez Ruiz

November 12, 2010

Tickets: $25

REPLICA is new multi-disciplinary performance work created in collaboration by acclaimed Miami visual artist Daniel Arsham, performance and media artist Jonah Bokaer, and choreographer Judith Sanchez Ruiz. Arsham created the extraordinary set for the Adrienne Arsht Center's 2007 Merce in Miami premiere performance, and with REPLICA comes full circle - collaborating with former Merce Cunningham dancer Bokaer and Cuban-born choreographer Ruiz to present a groundbreaking performance art event for Miami. The work will have its Miami premiere at the Adrienne Arsht Center on November 12, followed by an outdoor performance at the Museum of Contemporary Art on November 13. REPLICA examines memory loss, pattern recognition, and perceptual faculties as they apply to the human body. The piece employs built spaces, objects, lighting, and other media to create the illusion of an expanded space through the use of video and/or still images. REPLICA creates situations onstage that could not veritably exist in physical space. This happens through the use of creative geography in video and built spaces, transporting movement to different locations that appear to be just outside the audience's sightline. With original commissioned music by ARP/Alexis Georgopoulos, REPLICA envisions a world full of imagination, movement, and stunning visuals.

Tickets go on sale to Adrienne Arsht Center members on August 30, and to the general public on September 12. Tickets may be purchased through the Adrienne Arsht Center box office by calling (305) 949-6722, or online at www.arshtcenter.org.

Written by and starring Robyn Peterson, CATWALK CONFIDENTIAL is part fairy-tale, part memoir, and part romance. Funny, cautionary and at times moving, the show tells the story of 16 year-old Robyn, fresh from Miami, who gets caught up in the world of high fashion on the boulevards of Paris in the early 1970s. Robyn became one of the top models of the period, working with photographers such as Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin and designers Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent and Kenzo. Her face appeared on the covers of Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire. Amidst this whirlwind life of glamour, sex and drugs, Robyn discovers there is one thing to fear above all else - age - there is always a younger girl waiting to step into your stilettos.
