Ann Landers 'The Lady With All The Answers'

By: Jul. 03, 2007

Get the Advice You Need from Florida Studio Theatre

Florida Studio Theatre continues its strong 2007 summer season with the help of Ann Landers in David Rambo's brilliant one-woman show, The Lady With All the Answers. For decades, columnist Ann Landers (whose real name was Eppie Lederer) answered tons of letters from people in need of advice. She regaled her readers with direct and often humorously honest responses on every topic imaginable. Join local actress Carolyn Michel playing the role of Ms. Landers as she relives the most insightful and memorable moments of her career in a funny and heart-warming play about life, love and advice.

In writing The Lady With All The Answers David Rambo drew from the life and letters of Ann Landers with the cooperation of her daughter, Margo Howard and created a show that looks into the personal life behind the facade that so many Americans loved.  The play is set in 1975 when Ms. Landers was well over twenty years into her writing career.  This particular evening she is trying to write an exceptionally troubling column—one that deals with her personal life.

David Rambo's play sees Ms. Landers reminisce and relive some of the more interesting letters from her career.  She interacts with the audience as she sorts through the piles of letters on topics from sex and marriage to proper toilet paper hanging etiquette.  The Lady With All the Answers is an entertaining look at the woman who helped to shape America's behavior for over 40 years.

The Chicago Tribune called the play "highly entertaining" and The Los Angeles Times described it as "folksy, funny, straightforward."

Returning to FST to lend her endless talent to the intriguing role of Ann Landers in The Lady With All The Answers is local Sarasota artist Carolyn Michel, who was last seen at Florida Studio Theatre in Dorothy Parker: One Foot in Scarsdale. FST audiences will also remember her from another one-woman performance Rose, as well as various other roles throughout the years. Martin LaPlatney, who directed last summer season's Fiction (among many other FST productions) will direct The Lady With All The Answers.  Martin will be aided by FST Staff Member Marcella Beckwith (Scenic and Costume Design). Bruce Price and Colleen Jennings will design the lights.

The Lady With All The Answers begins July 11th and runs through July 29th, 2007 at the Keating Mainstage.   Tickets are $19-34 and may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person or by calling (941) 366-9000.
