American Chamber Players Open 2009-2010 Season With Concerts 10/3, 10/4

By:

The Bach Festival Society opens its 2009-2010 season with concerts by the American Chamber Players on October 3 and 4, 2009. The ensemble is led by Miles Hoffman, Music Commentator for NPR's Morning Edition. Known for their exciting performances and varied repertoire, American Chamber Players present works ranging from familiar masterpieces to neglected gems to newly commissioned American works. The Washington Post says of them, "An extraordinarily talented group who play beautifully together... They have established standards of chamber music performance equal to any in the world."

The season begins with the FrEd Rogers Family Series on Saturday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. This informal hour-long performance is a great way to introduce your family to quality arts programming. Miles Hoffman, ensemble leader, is known not only for his wonderful musicianship but also for his ability to make music accessible to a variety of people. This performance will enlighten audiences of all ages.

The Visiting Artists Series performance, on Sunday, October 4 at 3:00 p.m. is a more formal program that showcases the ensemble's varied repertoire. Works by Schubert, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff are blended with more contemporary works by Ernest Bloch and Madeleine Dring. Miles Hoffman says of this program and the Bach Festival Society, "Rachmaninoff wrote a song called 'How fair this spot,' and I think it's a perfect description of Winter Park. The surroundings are beautiful and the people are wonderful-and I've never played in any community that embraces music more warmly. My association with the Bach Festival has meant an awful lot to me over the years, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be coming down with the American Chamber Players to play on the Visiting Artists Series."
