The award-winning Slow Burn Theatre Company kicks off its fourth season with the Tony award winning Avenue Q. With music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and a book by Jeff Whitty, Avenue Q is a coming-of-age parable, addressing and satirizing the issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood.

Winner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Nominated for six Tony awards, Avenue Q won three: Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Musical Score and Best Musical.

“Avenue Q is the perfect show to kick off our fourth season and continue our mission of bringing intelligent musical theatre to south Florida,” said Patrick Fitzwater, Co-Artistic Director of Slow Burn Theatre Company. “and even though it’s a comedy, it makes profound statements about society, life and real world problems.”

The cast of Slow Burn Theatre’s Avenue Q includes: Mike Westrich (Princeton/Rod), Nicole Piro (Kate Monster/Lucy), Christian Vandepas (Nicky/Trekkie Monster), Courtney Poston (Bad Idea Bear/Mrs. T), Pamela Stigger (Gary Coleman), Ann Marie Olson (Christmas Eve) and Trent Stephens (Brian).

Slow Burn Theatre is an award winning locally based professional theatre group providing the South Florida community the opportunity to see daring, contemporary and intelligent works of musical theater. Shows are selected that educate and provoke thought as well as entertain.

Avenue Q will run for six performances – Fridays, October 26 & November 2, 2012 at 8 PM, Saturdays, October 27 & November 3 at 8PM and Sundays, October 28 & November 4 at 2 PM at the West Boca Performing Arts Theater on the campus of West Boca Raton High School on Glades Road.
