Mosaic Theatre presents its First World Premiere "A Measure of Cruelty" by Joe Calarco

Mosaic Theatre proudly presents its first World Premiere production, bringing to the stage

"A Measure of Cruelty" by acclaimed author Joe Calarco, a production made possible by a grant from Funding Arts Broward/Knight New Work Award. Mosaic Theatre commissioned the award-winning author to write this play in 2011, and "A Measure of Cruelty" will play for twenty performances (April 19 through May 13). A recipient of the Lucille Lortel Award for Shakespeare's R&J, author Joe Calarco is also a Helen Hayes Award-winning director, currently serving as an Artistic Associate at Signature Theatre in Arlington. "A Measure of Cruelty" marks his first collaboration with Mosaic Theatre, and the production boasts an equally impressive cast led by Carbonell Award winners Dennis Creaghan and Todd Allen Durkin, and featuring Andrew Wind (who is making his Mosaic Theatre debut.) Dennis Creaghan was previously seen at Mosaic in "Ages of the Moon" and the award-winning production of "The Seafarer," for which he was awarded the Carbonell for Best Supporting Actor. Todd Allen Durkin is also a Carbonell recipient, and is making a return to the Mosaic stage, having performed in last season's comedy hit "The Irish Curse." Most recently, Todd was seen in the critically acclaimed production of "A Steady Rain" at Gablestage, and audiences can see him in the recurring role of Assistant D.A. Doug Feehan in Magic City, premiering this spring on STARZ Network. Rounding out the cast of "A Measure of Cruelty" is Andrew Wind, who was recently seen in The Promethean Theatre's acclaimed production of "The Unseen."

"A Measure of Cruelty" tells the story of a peaceful South Florida neighborhood rocked by headlines, and a local bar owner struggling to keep the peace with his son. But as a storm grows ever closer, the men are forced to come to terms with each other and their long-guarded secrets. Carbonell Award-winning director Richard Jay Simon will stage this exciting new play with a creative team that includes resident set designer Douglas Grinn, lighting designer John Hall, sound designer Matt Corey (2011 Carbonell Award Winner), resident costume designer K. Blair Brown, production stage manager Linda Harris and graphics/photography by George Schiavone.

"A Measure of Cruelty" will run April 19 – May 13, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 with Saturday matinees at 3:00 and Sunday matinees at 2:00.

There will be a special discussion with the author following the matinee performance Saturday, May 12 at 3:00 pm. All performances are at Mosaic Theatre, located in the American Heritage Center for the Arts at 12200 West Broward Boulevard in Plantation. Group rates are available. Tickets may be purchased by calling (954) 577-8243 or visiting www.mosaictheatre.com.
