26 MILES Now Playing at New Theatre Thru 12/20
New Theatre presents 26 Miles, running now through December 20. The production is directed by Ricky J. Martinez and features a cast including Jackie Rivera, Evelyn Perez, Derek Warriner, and Christopher Vicchiollo.
In this coming of age tale, a Cuban mother loses custody of her Jewish daughter and after eight years she is given a second chance. At 4:30 in the morning she kidnaps the sick teenage girl and the two drive west in search of a remedy and their divergent American dreams.
26 MILES premiered at the ALLIANCE THEATRE, Atlanta, GA, Susan V. Booth, Artistic Director, Tom Pechar, Managing Director. This production marks Quiara Alegría Hudes' 2nd play produced at New Theatre after the critically acclaimed Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue in 2006 and she wrote the book for the musical In the Heights, both finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama. In the Heights, which continues its run on Broadway, has just launched a national tour, and is the recipient of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical. She is a resident writer for New Dramatists, is the Aetna New Voices Fellow at Hartford Stage, Joyce Fellow and is currently writing a new play, Water By the Spoonful, and the screenplay of In the Heights for Universal Pictures. She lives in New York with her husband and daughter.
Tickets for this production range in price from $35-$40 and can be purchased at www.new-theatre.org. 26 Miles runs on a Thursday-Saturday schedule at 8pm, with additional performances on Sunday at 1pm.
