Three workers suffered minor injuries after a set collapse at a stage for an upcoming Elton John concert at the Chichen Itza ruins in Mexico. Upper lighting rails of a 262ft-high piece of rigging fell onto the stage, injuring the workers on March 31st.

One of the stagehands suffered a broken leg, while two others were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. John was not on location when the collapse occurred. The singer was in London celebrating the 5th anniversary of his hit musical, Billy Elliot.

Spokesman for Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History Francisco de Anda said that experts were being called in to ensure the safety of workers and patrons alike and that the rigging could be safely reinstalled.

John's concert took place Saturday, April 3rd, in front of close to 6,000 fans. He performed many of his classics, including "Sacrifice," "Tiny Dancer," and "Rocket Man," and closed the show with the hit from the 1994 Disney animated classic, The Lion King.

John has composed music for Broadway's The Lion King in 1997, Aida in 1999 with lyricist Tim Rice (for which they received the Tony Award for Best Original Score and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album), Lestat: The Musical, and the Tony award winning Billy Elliot (which is currently on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre).
