Roots of the Sea and Land | Bridging Worlds: An International Black Theatre Festival at Hattiloo Theatre

Roots of Sea and Land is a multigenerational story centered on a young Garifuna man and an Indigenous woman from Marcala, La Paz. Their family’s journey explores love, migration, cultural identity, and the responsibility of preserving ancestral traditions. Through music, dance, ritual, storytelling, and memory, the production honors Garifuna and Indigenous Honduran culture while showing how cultural inheritance can remain a source of strength across generations. The Honduras residency is specifically built around a devised theatrical work exploring Garifuna history, culture, identity, and contemporary experience.
