Playhouse on the Square to Present THE MATCHMAKER

By:

Playhouse on the Square is proud to present the classic American comedy, The Matchmaker. The Matchmaker follows the exploits of Dolly Levi, a widow who arranges marriages for New Yorkers at the turn of the 20th century. Hired by a local merchant to find a wife, Dolly sets her sights on the eligible bachelor herself! Slapstick, mistaken identity, and secret rendezvous ensue in this uproarious comedy from the Pulitzer-prize winning playwright, Thornton Wilder.

Taking on the role of Dolly Levi is veteran Memphis actress Ann Sharp, making her Playhouse on the Square debut. Sharp is joined by Playhouse on the Square Resident Company Member Dave Landis (Billy Elliot; Mary Poppins) as the eligible bachelor Horace Vandergelder. They are joined by Playhouse on the Square Resident Company Members Kim Sanders (Billy Elliot; Kiss Me, Kate) as Irene Molly and Michael Gravois (The Seagull; Vanya, and Sonia, and Masha, and Spike) as Malechi Stack.

The Matchmaker runs September 25th - October 11th, 2015 at Playhouse on the Square. The Circuit Playhouse Inc. Super Sponsor is Dr. Thomas Ratliff. The Pay-What-You-Can Performance is Thursday, October 1st and is sponsored by ArtsZone/AutoZone and Southland Park Gaming and Racing. Playhouse on the Square is located at 66 S. Cooper St. For more information or to make reservations, please call (901) 726 - 4656 or purchase tickets online at playhouseonthesquare.org.
