The MPO’s Carmen Festival kicks off with a ballet derived from Bizet’s beloved opera. In 1967 Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin created his own reworking of Carmen for his famous ballerina wife. The orchestration is startling to say the least: it omits all wind instruments but requires nearly 50 percussion instruments! Come experience this exciting production choreographed by Malaysian Wan Chin Choong, Artistic Director of Danceworks.
