Hackmatack Playhouse Presents COX AND BOX and BON APPETIT, 9/4 & 9/5

By:

Tickets are now on sale for Hackmatack Playhouse's post-season (Labor Day weekend) light opera finale "Cox and Box" and "Bon Appétit" performed by Richard Conrad and The Bostonians. Arthur Sullivan's first comic success was "Cox and Box", the story of a landlord who lets his room to two lodgers - one by day, and one by night. Same admission, same show, audience members will also be treated to "Bon Appétit", a loving (but comic) tribute to Julia Child - cake and all! The script used was an actual Julia Child script from a WGBH-TV broadcast.

Featured in "Cox and Box" are Philip Lima, Ray Bauwens, Richard Conrad and William Merrill. Vibrant baritone Philip Lima has been featured in opera, oratorio, and recital across the United States and in Germany, Italy, South Korea, and Ukraine. Ray Bouwens is well known for his musicianship, acting and vocal skills to audiences throughout the New England area. Richard Conrad, The Bostonian's Founder and Artistic Director, studied singing with Harry Euler Treiber in Boston, and in Germany with Gisela Rohmert. Conrad is founder and former Artistic Director of Boston Academy of Music. William Merrill is one of the Northeast's most sought after and highly respected collaborative pianists.

The original Bostonians group began life in 1879 and was dedicated to the presentation of "light" opera with excellent voices, good acting, and high production values. The company toured the United States from coast to coast, as well as Canada, for 12 years. They were one of the first "national" touring companies.

The newest version of The Bostonians debuted in September, 2003 as Richard Conrad's The Bostonians. Conrad formed this latest incarnation of The Bostonians at the suggestion of various Boston area singers and lovers of light opera and operetta.

"Bon Appétit" features Mezzo-Soprano Laurie Lemley as Julia Child. Lemley was recently appointed as Director of Development at Washington Performing Arts Society in Washington, D.C.

"Cox and Box" and "Bon Appétit" will be presented together Labor Day Weekend: Friday and Saturday, September 3rd and 4th at 8pm and 2:00 matinees Saturday and Sunday, September 4th and 5th at Hackmatack Playhouse, 538 School Street, Berwick, Maine. Visit www.Hackmatack.org or call (207) 698-1807.

Prior to the Labor Day weekend Hackmatack Playhouse season finale, Carousel continues through Saturday, August 14. After that, Wednesday, August 18 through Saturday, August 28 is the delightful musical comedy, Hello, Dolly.
