Hackmatack Playhouse Children's Theatre Camp presents Gilbert and Sullivan's musical, The Pirates of Penzance open to the public July 31 and August 1,7, & 8 at 10 AM. The show features swashbuckling pirates and damsels in distress.

Director of the camp program, Katie Rodger, reports that there's plenty of talent in this group and "it's been a delight working with these children." She said that Pirates is an especially hard show to learn, with lots of music lyrics to memorize, and old fashioned language to get used to. The children have excelled at learning to improvise on stage when something goes wrong.

During the Hackmatack Children's Theatre Camp, children take part in working on the costumes, set, and makeup. They learn about being on-stage as well as off, about being a strong performer and an excellent audience member.
Pirates of Penzance tickets are $6 for students and $10 for adults.

In addition to the children's production of Pirates of Penzance, The 2009 summer Hackmatack Playhouse regular season schedule includes The Mystery of Edwin Drood July 29 through August 8, and The Producers August 12 through August 29. Hackmatack post-season includes "Masters of Operetta on September 4 and 5.

Hackmatack Playhouse is on Route 9 in Berwick, Maine. For more information and ticket reservations, call 207-698-1807 or visit www.Hackmatack.org.
