Fairfield University Media Center to Shoot Feature Film at Hackmatack Playhouse

Students and faculty from the Fairfield University Film, Television, and Media Arts program in Fairfield, Connecticut will be shooting a portion of their feature film titled Wild Kingdom at the Hackmatack Playhouse at the end of May and early June. Developed by students under the supervision of program director James Mayzik, SJ, the talented crew of students will use the Playhouse as a major location for a main character in the Media Center's second independent digital feature film. Upon location scouting in March, it was determined that the location would be a great place to tell the story of the meaning of community and belonging amidst the astonishing coastal landscape of Maine.

In the film, a young woman named Sara Camden joins a two-person (female) play and struggles to develop a relationship with the co-star but finds belonging and friendship with Barbara Noonan, owner of the playhouse and director of the play. While attempting to escape troubles from her life in Ohio, Sara is haunted by people and experiences from home that bring her to the Pine Tree State where her life becomes entangled with her biological brother Danny, from whom she was separated at birth.

Maine native and crew member Stan Grunder of Kennebunk, Maine recommended Hackmatack Playhouse as a primary location for the film where the Fairfield University Film, Television, and Media Arts program will continue their tradition of telling meaningful stories about the human condition through the explorative and creative possibilities of current media equipment and techniques.

The Film, Television, and Media Arts major and minor provides students with a detailed understanding of the visual, creative, and communicative power of various media through courses in theory, history, genres, styles, and structures in a collaborative, hands-on environment. The program's curriculum focuses on merging traditional media with new media, opening a world of exploration and creative possibilities.
