Cast Aside Seeks Submissions Of Original Work Image

Cast Aside Productions has been receiving a lot of original scripts and scores. "We get new plays and musicals sent to us faster than we can read them," Artistic Director David Surkin commented. "CAP's mission to 'produce new and reimagined classic works' is being heard and we're here for it. It's an honor to have so many authors trust us with their projects."

Cast Aside, known for producing several Maine and New England regional premieres, has also produced 2 original shows in their 4 years as a company. "New work is integral to the evolution of art and artists. The theater arts are no different, but as one the most collaborative and expensive mediums, the industry's capacity for creative and financial risk on unproven titles is limited," explained Executive Director Celeste! Green. "Cast Aside's agility as a company allows us to mitigate the risk an unproven piece can be while other, older, larger companies may not be ready, willing, or able to break scheduling patterns they rely on to meet their bottom line."

Original work has been shared with the CAP staff through email, social media, US Post, doorstep deliveries, and more, so creating a formal pathway for artists to share their work was only a matter of time. Green adds, "The formality of the process extends behind the scenes as well: our play reading committee aims to review 50 projects a year, while exploring funding to support the development of select events."

Beginning now, artists with completed work in the fields of musical theater, dance, opera, song cycles, revues, and operettas can submit their project via the Cast Aside Productions website: castasideproductions.com

The deadline for submission is open ended.
