Acorn Productions Opens New Studio Theater With 'I FALL FOR YOU' 9/25-26

Acorn Productions announces that the first production in the new Acorn Studio Theater will be "I Fall for You," a series of 7 short plays on love and romance by Maine playwright Michael Kimball.

The Acorn Studio Theater is a new black space located in the Acorn Studios in the Dana Warp Mill in Westbrook. Renovations began last spring with funding from the Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund and the Davis Family Foundation, and the production of "I Fall for You" is the first scheduled in the newly-renovated 40-seat theater.

Acorn has a long history of supporting the work of Maine playwrights through the company's "Second Friday" series of dramatic readings and the annual Maine Playwrights Festival, and the company is pleased to be able to offer Southern Maine audiences the chance to see this production. "I Fall for You" premieres in Newburyport next month and i s coming to the Acorn Studio Theater in Westbrook as part of a tour of New England venues. Playwright Michael Kimball is the author of several novels, including the London Times bestseller Undone and suspense thrillers Mouth to Mouth and Green Girls. His full-length stage plays include "Ghosts of Ocean House," nominated for a 2007 Edgar Award and recently banned by Utah State Theatre; "The Secret of Comedy," performed as a "First Reading" at Abingdon Theatre Company, in NYC; and "Santa Come Home," recently seen in Grand Junction, CO, and scheduled for a December run (directed by Tim Diering) at The Players' Ring (Portsmouth, NH). Mike has written for the television and motion picture industry and serves as full-time faculty at the University of Southern Maine's Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing Program. Acorn has presented Mr. Kimball's short plays in each of the last 3 Maine Playwrights Festival, including "Actual Glass," which was selected for inclusion in la st fall's Estrogenius Festival in NYC. "I Fall for You" is directed by Tim Diering and features Kathleen Henderson, David Houlden, Jack Rushton & Jennifer Wilson.

Most of the short plays compromising "I Fall for You" have been performed by theatre companies around the country. "Say No More" tied for "Best Play" at Rapscallion Theatre Collective's 2008 Salute UR Shorts Festival in NYC and, as part of a short play collaboration, won first place at the 2007 Kentucky Theatre Association Conference. "Estrus in Amazonia" was performed this summer in Baton Rouge, Philadelphia, and at the Players' Ring, in Portsmouth, where most of Kimball's plays have premiered, including "Reorient," which was presented in the 2009 Maine Playwrights Festival and at StageQ in Madison, Wisconsin. This collection, "I Fall For You," was first performed and directed by the same creative team, in June, as a production of the North Shore Readers' Collaborative, at Marc Clopton's Actors Studio of Newburyport.
