Madison Shakespeare Co Offers Love Tales To Warm A Cold, Dark December Image

The forecast is for short days and cold nights, so Madison Shakespeare Company offers two special presentations to help ease the slog to the solstice.

This Sunday, December 2 at 7 PM, MSC presents a preview performance of A Valentine's Affair 2019, the latest collection of love scenes and sonnets from Dane County's classical theater. The production features just six performers taking on roles from plays including All's Well That Ends Well, Henry the Fifth, and The Tempest. AVA 2019 is directed by Emily Morrison Weeks (As You Like It, Melancholy Play, A Valentine's Affair). Approximately 75 minutes, no intermission. madisonshakespeare.org/valentine2019

Next Sunday, December 9 at 7 PM, MSC presents a staged reading of Dido, Queen of Carthage by Christopher Marlowe. It's a poetic love story with unreasonable passions, insensitive gods, and a fiery finish. Featuring Ari Pollack (Henry the Fourth) as Aeneas and Kiki Moritsugu (Doctor Faustus, Rock of Ages) as Dido. Approximately 90 minutes, no intermission.

Both performances are free of charge thanks to the generous cooperation of Kathie Rasmussen Women's Theatre (Krass) and its production of After the Revolution. Contributions to Krass and MSC are gratefully accepted by patrons at the door. madisonshakespeare.org/dido-queen-of-carthage

Madison Shakespeare Company was founded in 2011 to present affordable theater classics to Madison-area audiences. Past productions include As You Like It, Richard the Second, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and Sloshed Shakespeare. The company was named Non-Equity Theater of the Year for 2017 by readers of BroadwayWorld Madison.
